Abstract

This research discusses the vision of the Tunisian President, Al-Habeeb Burqueibah, for resolving the Palestinian issue before and after June 1967 war. The Tunisian President had expressed his views on finding a solution to the Palestinian issue before the war. He presented his opinion during his speech addressing Palestinian refugees in Jericho in which he advised adopting what he called the ‘gradual work’ policy and implementing the ‘take and ask for more’ principle. He asked the Palestinian people to recognize the United Nation’s resolutions about the Palestinian case (the resolutions about division and refugees), recognize Israel, and negotiate with it in order to reach a compromising solution. He also talked about the reactions to his vision on the Arab, Islamic, and Palestinian levels. As for the solution after the war, he again confirmed the importance of the agreement to the United Nations’ resolutions, especially the (242) resolution. He argues that because Israel rejects all these resolutions, the Palestinian people, with the Arab support, should practice the resistance in different ways in order to force Israel to accept these resolutions. Accepting such resolutions will help achieve (compromising resolutions), as the President puts it.
