Abstract

The study addressed the topic of artificial intelligence applications in academic libraries by exploring AI applications in these libraries, identifying the requirements for leveraging AI in academic libraries, examining the challenges of implementing AI in these settings, and attempting to assess the risks associated with AI applications in academic libraries.

The study covered the central libraries of several universities, including the Central Library of Tanta University, the Central Library of Benha University, the Central Library of Mansoura University, the Central Library of Damietta University, the Central Library of Menoufia University, the Central Library of Kafr El Sheikh University, the Deanship of Libraries - Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, and the Central Library of Kuwait University.

The study adopted the descriptive-analytical method, as it was suitable for the nature and objectives of the research. The descriptive method involved studying and analyzing the literature related to the research topic to benefit from it. The researchers relied on checklists and personal interviews as the primary tools for collecting and analyzing the data related to the study.

The study reached several key findings, including that all the libraries in the study use integrated automated systems to carry out library operations and facilitate service delivery. However, none of these libraries have intelligent robots. These libraries also suffer from a lack of requirements for AI implementation, weak financial resources, and the absence of regulations and legislation governing the application of AI in libraries.
One of the most important recommendations of the study is to expand the dissemination of AI culture and clarify the importance of its applications. Additionally, there is a need to engage experts and follow pioneering experiences in the field, enhance the skills of information institution employees, and develop the regulations and legislation that govern the work of information institutions.
