Abstract

This study seeks to approach the novel of “Celestial Bodies: Sayyidat alqammar” by Omani Writer Jokha Alharthi as a novel that reads history critically to adopt a national narrative; where it does not just tell the “truth” of Omani society, and what it was, but rather leaks a “guidance” prescription for what Omanis should be. Therefore, I assume that the critical approach to the history of modern Omani society presented by the novel “Celestial Bodies: Sayyidat alqammar” is a gender approach that seeks to rebuild the nation in a way that allows women to contribute effectively to the process of building the nation narratively. Accordingly, it can be said that the question of this study is primarily related to how gender identity and ethnic identity are negotiated and the role of different forms of religiosity in the interaction between these two identities in the narrative arena.
