The purpose of this paper is to explore Chinese traditional family culture and Zhu Xi's Family Instructions from the perspective of a foreigner. The paper expounds on the history, values and influence of family culture, and introduces the author, content and characteristics of Zhu Xi's Family Instructions. It analyzes its connotation of family ethics, personal cultivation and social responsibility, as well as its historical influence and modern value, including promoting culture, guiding education and providing wisdom to today’s society. It emphasizes the importance of inheritance and the innovation in the way of it’s inheritance, and calls for attention to inheritance to create a good social atmosphere.
