Abstract

This research paper focuses on the topic of the modern archive in the digital world. It examines the impact of digital tools and technologies on archival documents in general, and on archival science in particular. It also discusses the ensuing propositions aimed at preserving the traditional principles and foundations that underpin this science, while simultaneously advocating for the necessity of embracing the various developments in the external environment. This includes solidifying the relationship that governs archival science with different other sciences and examining the effect of this relationship in serving this science both in the present and future.
The study gains special importance from addressing this topic, which is closely linked to the era of digitization and the consequent repercussions and changes that have affected various fields and sciences. Archival science has witnessed an enormous technological revolution in the realm of data and information in terms of how they are dealt with, processed, used, and stored. This has had a direct impact on the archival document and related aspects. Given the importance of this document, it is essential to elucidate the implications of the digital environment on it and to manage it according to scientific principles set by archival science, relying on the descriptive-analytical method. This method allows for describing the digital environment and analyzing its impact on both archival documents and archival science, in addition to the tasks undertaken by the archivist or information specialist, their status, and the ways they deal with archival documents in the context of the significant advancements brought by the digital environment in all aspects of life.
