Conditions of use of the auxiliary word “了” – an analytical study
Abstract:
The content of this research revolves around the cases of using the auxiliary word “了”, the methods of using it, and also the places where it is used. As it is commonly used in the Chinese language, researchers have conducted many researches on this word due to its importance and frequent use, as almost no sentence is devoid of its presence. It affects the meaning of the sentence and the time of the sentence, such that the time and meaning of the sentence change depending on the place of its use. In another context, its presence in the sentence may not affect the meaning or time of the sentence. The auxiliary word for the verb case, “了,” has many aspects. It may indicate the end of the verb, and in another context it indicates its continuation. It may indicate the past tense, and in another context it indicates the near future tense. In some sentences, its presence is merely an “accent” and does not affect it. The sentence in terms of its meaning or time of occurrence, so many Chinese language learners may make a mistake when using it. From this perspective, this research discusses its grammatical function, ways and places of its use, and the most common errors.
