Political Empowerment of Women in the State of Kuwait

Abstract

The study seeks to identify the intellectual framework for women's empowerment, identify the stages and developments that Kuwaiti society has gone through to empower women politically, and identify the challenges and obstacles facing women's political empowerment in the State of Kuwait. The research used the descriptive method. Methods: The research sample numbered 1325 female respondents from Kuwaiti employees in the government and private sectors. The questionnaire consisted of three axes: the first included basic data such as age, type of work, job level, academic qualification, party affiliation, parliamentary participation, and municipal participation. The second, included expressions of women's political participation in the State of Kuwait, and the third included expressions related to the obstacles to women's empowerment in Kuwait. The data were entered and analyzed by the SPSS statistical program, and the study relied on descriptive statistics, and the differences between means and percentages. Results: The results of the study concluded that the expressions of women's political participation in the State of Kuwait were achieved from the point of view of the research group to a large extent, and that the phrases of obstacles to women's empowerment in Kuwait from the point of view of the research group were achieved to a moderate degree. Conclusion: The study recommended directing the efforts and plans of the state in cooperation with civil society to accelerate the activation of legislation and laws that support the empowerment of women and the enlightenment of Kuwaiti society on the importance of women's participation in political aspects.
