Abstract
The spread of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) has caused a global health and humanitarian crisis accompanied by widespread social, economic and religious disorders in various parts of the world.
The research aims to highlight the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic on the performance of the rituals of Hajj and Umrah through its effect on the numbers of pilgrims and their rates of change, and the extent of the effect on the characteristics of Umrah pilgrims, and the extent to which sectors related to the performance of Hajj and Umrah rituals are affected due to the effect of the pandemic on the performance of rituals, in addition to the effect of the pandemic on the revenues of Hajj and Umrah. The study relied on the comparative approach, the evolutionary approach, the spatial variation approach, and the economic approach.
The study has showed that there is a decline in the number of pilgrims due to the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic, and the pandemic also affected the characteristics of Umrah pilgrims. Pandemic losses were estimated at $12 billion.
The study recommended the need to continue to apply precautionary measures, and to support the sectors related to the performance of the rituals of Hajj and Umrah, which were affected by the pandemic.
