Abstract

The aim of this article is to trace the properties of the lexical collocations used in Italian and Arabic due to the coronavirus outbreak which has hit our planet since the beginning of 2020.
The corpus is extracted from two newspapers in a period of thirteen months, from March 2020 until April 2021: the Post (Italian electronic newspaper since 2011) and Alyūm Assābi '(Egyptian paper and electronic newspaper drawn up on a weekly basis in October 2008, then daily from May 2011).
The essay starts from the assumption that, in times of universal crisis, languages - even those belonging to different families - tend to express themselves in the same way. The points to be examined in the article are: the impact of the pandemic on the world and language, the collocations and reasons of their invention in languages, the structural study of the collocations related to Covid-19 and the semantic lexical study of these in Italian and Arabic.
