Ageing in Egypt: Demo -Geography Study

Abstract

Ageing is one of the phenomena of continuous growth in the world, and it constitutes one of the most prominent challenges at the local and international levels, including its impact on the economy and government agendas as well as on the quality of life of this group.The number of Ageing in Egypt reached 6.3 million, representing 6.7% of the total population in 2017, and this study aims to identify the size, distribution and composition of the Ageing, and the most important factors affecting this category.
The problem of the study revolves around changes in the age structure of the population, and the increase in the number of Ageing who, in the majority, have turned into an economic burden on their families and society, as they are often unable to produce.
The study included the population of Egypt aged 60 years and over during the period 1986-2017 and was based on the historical, descriptive, and regional approach, in addition to the quantitative statistical method and the cartographic method.
The study recommended the necessity of increasing attention to caring for the Ageing in all governorates, especially the governorates of Upper Egypt: Sohag, Qena, Assiut, Luxor, Fayoum, Aswan, and Beni Suef.
