Ethical documents in the Arab world and their role in supporting science and technology: The Charter of Science and Technology Ethics in the Arab Region as a model.

Abstract

This study tests a key hypothesis that ethical documents have a significant role in supporting science and technology in the Arab world, The study chose the document, " The Charter of Science and Technology Ethics in the Arab Region " as a model; To apply them in stating the importance of ethical documents. That document, issued in 2019, by UNESCO; In cooperation with the UNESCO Regional Office for Science in the Arab Countries in Cairo. The document was prepared by a group of experts and specialists in ethics, from different Arab countries, and edited by Dr. "Bahaa Darwish", Professor of Philosophy at Minia University, member of the International Committee for Bioethics UNESCO - Paris. Then the study came in an introduction, four axes and a conclusion, where the first axis came to represent an introductory approach, in which the study showed the concept of moral documents, their importance, and their types. In the second axis, the study presented the reality of the Arab society, as the study demonstrated its need for a comprehensive document on the ethics of science and technology. Because all the ethical documents in existence are either medical ethics, or bioethics only. Then came the third axis to analyze the bill of ethics of science and technology in the Arab region. then the study presents in the fourth axis critical proposals complementary to the document, and shows the extent of the Arab community’s need for ethical documents in other areas. To achieve the desired goal, the study relied on three main approaches: the descriptive analytical approach, the critical approach, and the comparative approach.
