The problem of the sources of the history of the Children of Israel, a historical study

There is no clear evidence or facts regarding the history of the ancient Israelites. Therefore, the problem of writing the history of the ancient Israelites is one of the most complex issues among the historians past and present. The Old Testament, the holy Book of the Jews and the source of their ancient history, cannot be relied upon to write the history of the ancient Israelites. Other sources, whether literary, archaeological or epigraphic, need a historical research and scrutiny. This study defines the sources of the history of the ancient Israelites and identifies their types. In addition, it classifies these sources, their chronological order, and how they can be used for history writing. Finally, the study presents the most important examples of the writing of ancient Israelite history in the 19^th and 20^th centuries
