Abstract

This study aimed to reveal the reality of cultural heritage in Gaza and its role in fortifying national identity amidst the systematic Israeli targeting of the Gaza Strip during the "Tufan Al-Aqsa" battle (2023-2025). The study deeply analyzed the most significant aspects of cultural heritage (tangible and intangible) and monitored manifestations of aggression against archaeological and historical sites and cultural institutions. It also identified the impact of these aggressions on belonging and cultural identity in Gaza. Furthermore, the study documented the mechanisms adopted by the local community and institutions to counter erasure and destruction efforts through arts, traditions, and daily practices. A descriptive-analytical approach was employed, relying on a review of academic literature, international reports, and documented field sources. The study concluded that cultural heritage in the Gaza Strip has been systematically attacked, and far from being merely a victim of aggression, it has transformed into an effective tool of resistance in strengthening the resilience of Gazans and preserving their identity. The study offers practical and academic recommendations for protecting Palestinian cultural heritage in similar future circumstances.
