Assessment of Biodiversity and Geographic Characteristics of Tourist Sites in the Northern Badia Region, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Using Geospatial Techniques.

The Northern Badia region holds significant biodiversity and tourist importance, being part of the culturally rich environments intertwined with cultural and historical heritage throughout the history of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This study aims to shed light on the biodiversity and geographic characteristics for tourist sites in the Northern Badia region by following a proposed tourist route in the area. This route includes several sites starting from the town of Umm Al-Jamal, passing through Wadi Al-Aqab, and via other towns, then ending in the town of Jawa. The results revealed that sites exhibited different natural characteristics which have an impact on biodiversity (i.e. climatic features, prevailing geological formations, surface topography). Multiple digital maps for the study area have been generated, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing (RS), and GIS database. Maps include natural and human phenomena, as well as maps of the tourist route. Distances between provinces in Jordan and the proposed areas on the tourist route were also measured, from the starting point of the route (Umm Al-Jamal). Factors such as time impact and arrival time to activate these sites on the tourist route have also been calculated. The study concluded with several recommendations such as the preservation and promotion of biodiversity and cultural sites and raise awareness amongst tourists of these sites as a model for tourism which is focused on biodiversity and history.
