School Punishment as a Predictor of the Level of Self-Confidence among Pupils of the Lower Basic Stage in Gaza Governorate from the Point of View of a sample of Parents

AbstractThe current study aimed at identifying the relationship of school punishment and self-confidence, and also revealing the possibility of the contribution of school punishment in predicting the level of self-confidence among students of the lower basic stage from the point of view of a sample of parents. The study tools included the measure of (school punishment) and the measure of (self-confidence), which were prepared by the researcher.In this study, the researcher used the descriptive approach, and the study sample consisted of (266) fathers and mothers from a sample of parents, who were selected using the available sample method. The results showed a strong inverse relationship between school punishment and self-confidence, and the results also showed the contribution of school punishment with its three dimensions in predicting the self-confidence among the students of the lower basic stage from the point of view of a sample of parents. The researcher recommended the necessity of urging teachers to deal positively with students and to use reinforcement and encouragement styles during the teaching process that would increase the students' self-confidence level.Key words: (school punishment, self-confidence, students of the lower basic stage).
